Demake Game Profile: Super Smash Land

Have you downloaded Super Smash Land yet?  If you haven’t yet, what are you waiting for?  It’s a free PC game (created by Dan Fornace) that was inspired by the Super Smash Brothers series.  It was just recently released on 9/14/11.  Super Smash Land is Smash Brothers as if it were released on the Nintendo Gameboy.  Think of the game, Battle Kid for the NES, except that it never went to cart.  The visuals, and sounds of the game are of 100% pure Gameboy retro goodness.  As if you had to have another reason to download it, I’ve gotten some serious hands-on with the game, and I’m happy to report that, for a non-Nintendo made game, it plays extremely well.  Well done.  I am very excited for this game.  Curiously enough, we have never gotten a Gameboy version of Smash Brothers.  This game fills in nicely in that regard.  If you love the Smash Brothers series, you’ll naturally love this game.

Editorial: The Future of Video Gaming

I’m a huge fanboy of video games.  I play them and I think a lot about them.  In fact I’m always thinking about games from the past.  I’m always thinking about games in the present.  And I’m especially thinking about what gaming will be like 20, 30, or 50 years from now.

I speculate that, ultimately, video game creation will reach the peak of its craft before the end of my lifetime.  Let me elaborate.  Games nowadays for example have reached a point of graphical fidelity that is getting very close to photo realism.  We are probably a couple of console generations from reaching complete photo realism on a TV screen.  Sure we can keep adding more detail, more resolution, more frames per second, but ultimately we are limited by our own eyesight, what our eyes are capable of seeing.  Also, from a game revenue standpoint, diminishing graphical gains will seem unreasonable to the increasing price of manpower when you get to a certain level of graphics.  The same could be said of sound, but we are already there for digital sound and have been for some time.  All that’s left is innovations in user interface, and there are a lot of opportunities and potential to improve there.

Summer of Backlog

There hasn’t been a ton of games to play this summer so I’ve been doing what I always do, working on my backlog. Most of the games I’ve completed in the last month range from old to very old. Much like Adam, I don’t feel the need to rate the games I write about. I just figured I would touch on each game I played and the experience of playing it. I started out this month finally completing a title I’d missed back at it’s release date.

Episode 023 – Wii Want on eShop

Better late than never right? I am used to the lack of games during the summer but, I am not used to trying to do a show during it. Still, I think Adam and I found a few good topics to hit on during the show. The image above is a game we touch on and would both love to see on the 3ds. Thank you everyone for sticking with us and continuing to listen. Our numbers have been way up lately and we have you to thank for it. So click HERE to listen and please review us on iTunes. As always your comments and emails are welcome. Enjoy!

I Hope They Finish Super Bat Puncher

When Adam posted a video of this game earlier this week I was instantly intrigued. Since I am a huge fan of games like Mega Man 9, Mega Man 10, and the Konami Rebirth titles it’s only natural that a game like Super Bat Puncher would be right up my alley. Continue reading

Super Bat Puncher

Started watching the video, Super Bat Puncher looks pretty great. It seems to be far more creative and original that Battle Kid. I’ll do research later.
