Platformers have always been my jam. To me there is nothing quite like running and jumping through a game. When your first memories are of playing Super Mario Bros. this makes complete sense. As I get older and I game less, the Puzzle Platformer has gained a special place in my heart. They are easier to pick and play in shorter bursts. I also like the emphasis on thinking over speed. The Puzzle Platformer genre is not an overly prevalent one but this Spring, Nintendo blessed us with two solid entries available in the eShop. Both games kept me occupied on the weekends and up late at night until they were completed to my satisfaction. Continue reading

I went into Gamestop about a month ago, looking to preorder the Wii U. I was turned down. They said they couldn’t handle anymore Wii U preorders. I wanted to shell out my hard earned cash and they wouldn’t take it. Wow. I didn’t have a whole lot of money to blow anyway, so I pretty much at that point had given up on going for the Wii U (atleast for 2012).
Lately I had been reading about Wii U alot online, watching online video reviews, and just started getting really hyped for the machine. First off, that Wii U Game Pad is beautiful, sleek, and black. The screen is beautiful. Way back when I had no reason to believe that the GBA third pillar would fall, I had envisioned then what the next gen Game Boy would be, and that image in my head looks very similar to the Game Pad we see before us today. My guess at the time was that it would play Game Cube discs; not stream video from a console. In any case, I had gotten myself so hyped, that I figured I owed it to myself to go to Gamestop and play the demo unit there. I figured they must have a demo unit set up by now. I had some errands to run, so I decided I would do those after I checked out the Wii U. So I arrived there, messed with the demo unit, and figured what have I got to lose by asking if they had any. I went over, and my question went something like “you guys don’t have the Wii U, don’t you?” The response was “We do today, but not yesterday. You are lucky.” My heart went beating fast. Hold on boy. Remember you don’t have a whole lot of money here. You are gonna regret it later. I pulled the trigger, and my heart beated fast. I put all my errands on hold and went home quickly. That is my story for the day. Seeing that it is Christmas season, I figured it wouldn’t be easy to get one, but I did today. Lucky me.
I have never played a main series Final Fantasy game. I have tried Final Fantasy VII because of all the hype but I couldn’t get into it. I have however beat every single Crystal Chronicles game, and I have beat 4 Warriors of Light. When I was younger I didn’t understand RPG’s so I never played them and by the time I became interested in them I was playing Nintendo 64 (the point in which Nintendo stopped getting so many great RPG’s). Even without playing many Final Fantasy games, the series still has nudged a special place in my heart. I like a lot of the characters and enemies in Final Fantasy and the music is always good, so when a highly stylized rhythm game based on Final Fantasy comes out I can’t pass that up. Continue reading
Nintendo’s E3 press conferences always confuse me. I’m not the type of person that gets mad when they show things like Wii Fit U or SiNG (this make me think of CiNG and it makes me sad that Nintendo didn’t buy them when they went bankrupt). I just want there to be a better balance to what is showcased during the actual press conference. Something that could help address this issue is by fixing another issue I have, time management. Nintendo E3 press conferences usually have very slow speech, long pauses and Matryoshka dolls worth of introductions. Continue reading

With the addition of game downloads to Club Nintendo I feel like its finally something to pay attention to. I’ve enjoyed the rewards for the most part but getting a extra game for buying games I’m going to get anyway is the best reward. Plus at 100 coins it couldn’t be easier. I personally just knocked out 20 post play surveys to pick these two Game Boy classics up which took about 20 mins. If you want these two titles or Cubello which is up for the same price you better hurry. The offer expires March 31st.
