He was a great man and a rarity among CEOs. It was an honor to share in gaming with you. RIP 1959-2015
Platformers have always been my jam. To me there is nothing quite like running and jumping through a game. When your first memories are of playing Super Mario Bros. this makes complete sense. As I get older and I game less, the Puzzle Platformer has gained a special place in my heart. They are easier to pick and play in shorter bursts. I also like the emphasis on thinking over speed. The Puzzle Platformer genre is not an overly prevalent one but this Spring, Nintendo blessed us with two solid entries available in the eShop. Both games kept me occupied on the weekends and up late at night until they were completed to my satisfaction. Continue reading
It is the morning after. The morning after a seemly dismal Nintendo E3 performance. You would think that Nintendo’s showcase from their Digital Event was worse than that of their press conference in 2008. You would think that Nintendo showed nothing new, nothing exciting, nothing cute, nothing worth playing, but that is simply not true.
Faif is a game that was created by the Argentinian developer Beavl for the December 2013 Ludum Dare. The theme of the year’s competition was themed, “You only get one.” After choosing 5 adjacent tiles you only get one! That is essentially how the game Faif is played. Since it’s original creation for the Ludlum Dare game jam; Beavl has added improved graphics and sounds, AI to battle against, a shop to buy spells and upgrades, music, and stability fixes. Faif is now available on Android and iOS.
The music. The level design. The fact that I have to play as Donkey Kong. That you have press select 3 times to get into a level. There is no SNES controller setup. Donkey Kong Island doesn’t look like Donkey Kong’s head. Rambi is the only Animal Buddy. No Take-Turn multiplayer. No K. Rool or Kremlings. That auto saves make lives pointless. You cannot skip checkpoints. The loading times for speed runs (the load times in general don’t bother me). That the game doesn’t have this song. I have nothing good to spend my coins on. The secret areas are all the same. No Miiverse integration.
